Arvind Kejriwal administered Insulin in Tihar Jail as blood sugar spikes: AAP reports

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated a breakthrough as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was finally given insulin while in custody at Tihar jail. After days of struggle and Kejriwal's blood sugar levels reaching 320, the AAP credited the outcome to both the blessings of Lord Hanuman and the relentless efforts of the people of Delhi.

Legal battle leads to medical intervention

The development followed a court directive to AIIMS to form a medical board to assess Kejriwal's need for insulin and to address discrepancies between his prescribed diet and the food available in jail. The order, issued by special judge Kaveri Baweja, dismissed Kejriwal's plea for a video consultation with his doctor, reinforcing concerns about inadequate medical care in Tihar jail.

AAP leaders, including Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Cabinet colleague Atishi, welcomed the court's intervention, affirming Kejriwal's longstanding claims of rising blood sugar levels and the lack of specialist care in jail. Kejriwal's demand for insulin, supported by medical evidence of consistently high sugar levels, underscored the urgency of the situation.

Arvind Kejriwal's health challenges coincided with his incarceration since April 1 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to Delhi's excise policy. His prolonged stay in jail, marked by escalating blood sugar levels, highlighted the need for timely medical intervention and raised questions about the adequacy of healthcare facilities provided to inmates.

High Court to hear Kejriwal's appeal

Amid ongoing legal battles, the Delhi High Court scheduled a hearing on May 15 for Kejriwal's petition challenging summonses issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). As Kejriwal navigates both health concerns and legal proceedings, his party continues to advocate for his rights and access to proper medical care during his confinement.

Arvind Kejriwal's struggle for adequate medical treatment while in Tihar jail underscores broader issues concerning healthcare accessibility in correctional facilities. The AAP's efforts to secure insulin for Kejriwal reflect their commitment to his well-being amidst a challenging legal and health crisis. As the legal saga unfolds, attention remains on ensuring Kejriwal's health needs are met and his rights safeguarded during his time in custody.
